Settimana in Sardegna

A week in Sardinia: What to see in 7 days

Exciting, relaxing, unique. That’s how your week in Sardinia will be. As long as you know how to find the right area to explore in just seven days.

Let’s be honest: a complete Sardinian camper tour in only a week is not feasible. The island is too big and too full of places to visit to think of enjoying all its treasures in just seven days!

But there is an alternative: forget about touring all of Sardinia in a week and focus on one area. Are you confused and don’t know where to start? We suggest you how to organise a week in Sardinia by camper van!

A week in Northern Sardinia: What to do on the Northeastern Coast

Visiting all of Sardinia in a week, as we said, is impossible, but by choosing the northeastern coast, you can enjoy both dreamy beaches and that nightlife you love so much.

Visiting all of Sardinia in a week, as we said, is impossible, but by choosing the northeastern coast, you can enjoy both dreamy beaches and that nightlife you love so much. The north-eastern coastal area, the Costa Smeralda, is in fact the tourist area par excellence, frequented not surprisingly by many VIPs, who flaunt their opulent lifestyles, screaming cars and enchanting yachts here.

In the evenings, you can certainly explore Porto Cervo, with its luxurious harbour, along whose quays you can enjoy an aperitif of Ichnusa and pane guttiau, but during the day, don’t miss the chance to park your camper van and relax on one of the many white sandy beaches in the area, such as Cala Volpe, Spiaggia del Principe and Romazzino.

Trust me, one week in the north of Sardinia on the Costa Smeralda will be enough to relax and enjoy the holiday life you are looking for!

A week in Northwestern Sardinia: Catalan and Mediterranean Atmosphere

If, on the other hand, you want your week in Sardinia to be full of thrills, breath-taking landscapes and millenary culture, then the northwestern coast is the destination for you.

Here you can discover a part of the island that still retains its wild and authentic charm, where the sea rumbles noisily against the cliffs and the beaches are surrounded by lush Mediterranean scrub.

The Riviera del Corallo, for example, is the stretch of coastline from Alghero to Bosa, home to one of the most important coral reefs in the Mediterranean. You will find wonderful beaches, such as Lazzaretto, Bombarde, Porto Ferro and Stintino, one of the most enchanting coastlines in Sardinia, where you can relax on the white sand and swim in crystal-clear waters that rival those of the Caribbean.

A week in northwestern Sardinia also offers you the unmissable opportunity to discover the island’s culture. Don’t deprive yourself of a visit to Castelsardo, an ancient medieval village overlooking the sea from a rocky hill.

You can visit the Doria castle, which houses the Mediterranean weaving museum, where you can discover the ancient art of basket weaving, and relax while strolling among the colourful houses in the historical centre, as well as buy souvenirs in one of the many craft shops.

And if you can ignore the call of the sea for a moment, drive to Alghero, the Sardinian city where the Catalan atmosphere blends with the Mediterranean, creating a combination of unmistakable smells and flavours that invade the alleys dotted with Gothic-Aragonese buildings.

Week in Sardinia along the West Coast, the Wildest and Least Frequented

Sea, sun and relaxation are your priorities? Then plan a tour of Sardinia along the west coast, heading south.

Here you will find some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, on which, by moving far enough away from the main accesses, you can enjoy tranquillity and solitude, even in the busiest months.

Our advice, however, is not to underestimate what are, in their own right, the real pearls of the area, which although difficult to find deserted, are still worth a visit.

Such as Piscinas, a unique beach, famous for its impressive dunes of fine sand, which can reach up to 60 metres in height.

Or Is Arutas, famous for its sand, which, unlike many others, is composed of tiny white and coloured quartz grains that reflect light in a thousand different ways in the sunlight.

Do you prefer rocks? Reach Sa Mesa Longa, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. Here, you will find a strip of rock a few metres from the shore that creates a sort of natural pool protected from the waves, while the beach, however present, is composed of fine yellow-ochre sand, which mingles with the pebbles and pinkish shells found on the shoreline. Want to know what the sea is like? Clear, blue and shallow, just the way you like it.

A week in southern Sardinia, between the capital and Picture-perfect Beaches

The one-week tour of southern Sardinia will take you to a universe of attractions, always different, with which to diversify your days.

For sure, you can take the opportunity to visit Cagliari, a city rich in history, art and life, where in the historical centre you can admire the Castle, the Cathedral, the Bastion of Saint Remy and enjoy a few hours in the cool air of the Archaeological Museum.

But before you leave the city, don’t forget to treat yourself to a stroll along Poetto, the city’s long beach, dotted with bars and restaurants, where you can sample traditional Sardinian cuisine.

What to do during a week in southern Sardinia besides visiting the capital? Obviously enjoy the beauty of its beaches! Drive to Chia: it is one of the most famous and popular seaside resorts in southern Sardinia, where you will find dream beaches such as Su Giudeu, Cala Cipolla, Tuerredda and Sa Colonia. All locations where you can alternate swimming in crystal-clear waters with activities such as surfing, kitesurfing and snorkelling.

Before heading back, however, stop at Costa Rei, one of the longest and most spectacular beaches in Sardinia, with more than 10 km of golden sand and turquoise sea, from which the scenic Scoglio di Peppino emerges overbearingly, offering a breath-taking view of the coastline.

One-week Itinerary along the East Coast of Sardinia

For a week in Sardinia by the sea along the east coast, we recommend driving your camper van along the route from the Gulf of Orosei to Arbatax, along which you will come across dreamy beaches, caves and exciting landscapes.

Your week in Sardinia will begin in Orosei, a town that still retains its ancient charm, masterfully expressed by the old Spanish prison, silhouetted against the blue sky. On your journey southwards, you will then meet Dorgali, where history and tradition emerge from the ancient artefacts of the Nuragic civilisation and from the old town centre, where ancient stone houses stand next to graceful Romanesque churches.

And then, finally, the sea of Cala Gonone, where, by hiring a dinghy or taking part in a guided excursion, you can visit the many coves hidden from the view of the tourists crowded into the bathing establishments.

Cala Gonone, one of Sardinia’s best-known localities

At the end of your week in Sardinia, you will have your prize: point your bonnet southwards and reach Arbatax, a hamlet of Tortolì, famous for its red rocks emerging from the blue waters of the sea.

These are the renowned Red Rocks of Arbatax, geological formations of volcanic origin that create a spectacular contrast with the blue of the sea and the green of the vegetation. A landscape you will not easily forget.

As you can see, organising a week in Sardinia in a camper van is not difficult, you just need to prioritise and choose according to your preferences.

And if you don’t have a camper van, we will rent one for you!

And all you have to do is get ready for a unique experience, where the beaches are true paradises and the sea is always bluer.
